Western Tien Shan
 Western Tien Shan is the system, limited in the north with backbone of Talasskiy Alatau till the Ala-bel' and Otmek mountain passes, on the west - by the rivers Chychkan, Narin, Kekirim and north-western extremity of the Fergan’s backbone to the mountain pass Sary-kush, from a south - by Fergan cavity with «Farkhad’s gates» and from the west - by the deserts of Middle Asia.
All rivers of Western Tien Shan behave to the Basin of Syrdarya River, being its right influxes (rivers Chatkal, Pskem, Ugam, Coks, Sandalash and others). The rivers begin in the high-mountain,they have glacial and snow feed, the period of there flood begins from the end of April till the end of June, depending on the height of pool of feed.
The most full-flowing rivers are Chatkal, Pskem, Narin they are impassable on water land twenty-four hours a day. The Rivers Ugam, Coks, Angren, Akbulak, Ters, Sandalash, Maydantal, Oygaing, Padysha-Ata, Itokar, South Aflatun, Mayli-Suu, Karaunkur, Otuzart extraordinarily difficultly passable during the flood period.
The snow line in Western Tien Shan rises to periphery into the mountain system, in general, from a north-west on south-east. It’s related with the increase of dryness of climate in south-east direction. On Talasskom Alatau the snow line is located on height of 3600-3800 m on the northern slopes and 3800-4000 m on southern.
The climate differs moderate continentality. Complication and dismembered of relief stipulate for considerable contrasts in temperatures and degree of moistening. Influencing of the nearby deserts tells upon the climate of foothills and small hills. Middle temperature in June in the Western Tien Shan is +19-20°Ñ, and absolute maximums run up to +30-40°Ñ. In foothills the temperature in January from -3° to -8°Ñ, and in the mountains it runs up to -15-20°Ñ. An absolute minimum runs up to -40°Ñ.
The climate of this district is characterized with a few rainfalls about 1000 mm on the windward slopes Chatkal’s and Pskem’s sources and about 600 mm in the other districts of the system. Maximum of rainfalls fall at March – April months.
 For the tourists Western Tien Shan is possible to attribute to the middle complication mountains. It is difficult to lay logical mountain routes higher than the III category of complication here. Although for mass mountain tourist hikes and for pedestrian hikes (till the V category of complication) this district answers all requirements. Difficult orography, high temperatures in summer period, snow-bound ness and high water-level in spring along with the variety slopes of mountain passes demand considerable physical and technical preparedness from the participants of the hike. And ability to overcome the mountain rivers (sais), steep slopes, fruticulose overgrew, to ward off plentiful sun radiation along with knowledge of poisonous plants and reptiles is extremely necessary here.

From Tashkent before the sunrise on the east, on the background of light sky, painted with daybreak, it’s easy to see blue silhouette. Its serrated contour is locked horizon on the large extent. In clear winter days on this place a snow-white wall with deep dark blue shades is visible here. This white-blue wall, overcoming the district of Tashkent from the east are mountains and spurs of the Western Tien Shan. |
